On July 12, 2020, a shooting took place on Picardy Court in Weeki Wachee resulting in the death of one individual.
On July 13, 2020, HCSO released the following statement:
“Since this investigation began, officials at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) have been in communication with authorities at the State’s Attorney’s Office (SAO).
“In order to maintain complete transparency and the confidence of Hernando County citizens, as well as to ensure a complete and impartial investigation, a request was made early this morning by the administration of the HCSO to have the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) work alongside investigators during this investigation.
“This request was made as one of the individuals involved in this incident is retired from the HCSO, having served as a sworn law enforcement officer. This individual now volunteers his time, serving in the capacity of a Reserve Deputy Sheriff.
“It should be noted this incident was domestic-related. The individual was not volunteering as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff at the time of the incident.
“Once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the SAO for review. The SAO will determine if charges are filed.
“Please note, the personal information (name, address, telephone number) of crime victims is protected under Marsy’s Law. The personal information (address, telephone number, photographs, and dates of birth) of active or former sworn or civilian law enforcement personnel (and their families) is protected under Florida Statute 119.071(4)(d)2.
“Due to Marsy’s Law and FSS 199.071 (4)(d)2., we are unable to release any information regarding the individuals involved in this incident.”
