COVID-19 Update from Hernando County Emergency Op Director- Aug. 11, 2020

Emergency Management Director Cecilia Patella reported the latest coronavirus statistics at the regular Board of County Commission meeting on August 11, 2020.

On this date, Patella reported 2,030 total positive cases, of which 81% (1,741) have recovered.  316 cases have been reported at long-term care facilities, which is roughly 16% of the total cases in the county.  12% of those testing positive are children. 

Fifty deaths have been reported, an increase of 24 more individuals since the last report on July 28th.  Patella noted that 90% of deaths have occurred in those over the age of 65.

There are currently 97 individuals hospitalized in Hernando County, 11 of those are on ventilators.

Patella’s office has also been dealing with requests from unspecified facilities for staffing assistance.  Some of these facilities have had staff members directly affected by COVID-19.
