On August 18, 2020, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female, from Brooksville, was traveling northbound on US-41 approaching Lakeside Drive when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The SUV departed the roadway, entered the east shoulder and collided with a tree. On August 23 a 16 year old passenger, from Brooksville, who was not wearing a seatbelt, expired from injuries sustained during the crash. The driver and another 17-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries in the crash. Both were wearing seatbelts.
