County Administrator Jeff Rogers gave his regular update regarding board directives at the Regular Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting on September 8, 2020.

The BOCC will consider in the future whether to restrict the number of months that residents can apply fertilizer, and limiting the amount of fertilizer that can be used on waterfront properties.

Up for consideration is also water requirements for sod and to review the types of sod allowed, potentially allowing for rebates for those who do not use sod with high water requirements.

Following the recent Weeki Wachee River Carrying Capacity Study, The board will consider whether to establish the Carrying Capacity Working Group between agencies.  This working group will address issues found during the Carrying Capacity Study.

Rogers also updated the board on mortgage and rental assistance available through the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security).  In the first phase of funding, Hernando county received $8.4 million.  A second phase has not moved forward at this time.

932 applicants have applied for business assistance, accounting for $2.6 million.  14 individuals have applied for mortgage assistance and 24 for rental assistance.   Funding is still available for rental assistance.
