This construction that is underway on SR 50, causing east and west lane closures is the Suncoast to Good Neighbor Trail (GNT) connection. When completed it will be a 12 foot wide paved multi-use trail. This trail will stretch down SR 50 between the Suncoast Parkway and the SR 50/Cobb Road intersection. The longterm plan is to join the Good Neighbor Trail in the City of Brooksville to the paved north-south Suncoast Trail to the west, closing a gap in the planned Coast to Coast Connector, a 250-mile paved trail joining Florida’s west and east coasts. Funding for this project comes from a 5-year D.O.T program passed by the legislature in 2019 granting $2.5 million towards the completion of the connecting trail. This construction is causing lane closures at:
-SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) from B.W. Stevenson Road to Winter Street westbound 24 hours/day through approximately end of October 2020.
-SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard) from west of Wiscon Road to Cobb Road eastbound 24 hours/day through approximately end of October 2020.
The Good Neighbor Trailhead is located at the Russell Street Park within the city of Brooksville. Plans are also in the works for a trail alignment between the GNT trailhead and the Suncoast to Cobb Rd trail extension.
