MONDAY Oct. 12, 2020- A two-vehicle collision on Mariner Blvd. this morning sent two drivers to the hospital. The accident occurred right in front of St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church at the corner of Norvell and Mariner.
According to Deputy Brian Smith the accident happened at around 8:30 this morning. Emergency vehicles and police officers arrived on the scene approximately five minutes later.
The crash occurred when a dark-colored, late-model Chevy Cruze ran a stop sign at Norvell Road and Mariner Boulevard. It collided with a 2013 GMC Sierra pick-up truck driven by 58-year-old Mike King. There was extensive damage to both vehicles.
The contents of the truck belonging to King, a handyman, were strewn all over the surrounding area. These included razor blades, tools, nails and other assorted items. King did not appear to be shaken by the accident and was seen helping deputies clean up the debris.
The driver of the Chevy Cruze, was transported by ambulance to Oak Hill Hospital. Although King suffered no apparent injuries, besides a cut, his wife took him to the hospital to be checked out.
The accident is still under investigation and the name of the other driver has not been released, but according to Deputy Smith, the driver of the Chevy Cruze will be charged.
Mr. King stated that the other driver told him that he felt dizzy before running the stop sign.
