(Spring Hill, FL– NOV. 21, 2020) At 11:20 a.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a residential fire at the 7000 block of Sealawn Dr. HCFES arrived on scene and found heavy smoke from the manufactured home. An off-duty deputy entered the structure prior to arrival and extinguished the majority of the fire. While entering the home he encountered a deceased occupant. Fire crews advanced a hose stream into the structure and put out the remaining fire.
The civilian death is being investigated by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Any further information regarding the investigation will be at the discretion of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire was completely under control at 11:31 a.m. The fire caused moderate damage to the mobile home. The origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office in conjunction with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ALS medic units, 1 Ladder Truck, Fire Corps, and 2 Battalion Chiefs for a total of 19 personnel.
HCFES would like to remind the community change smoke detector batteries twice a year and conduct routine fire risk assessment on your homes.
