Hernando High’s annual Purple verse Gold Scrimmage Wrestling Event and Barbecue took place on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020. This event gives the wrestler a chance to raise money for their gear and upcoming season. In years past there have been family, friends, teachers, and administrators all coming out to support and encourage the Hernando High School Wrestlers. The barbecue dinners of pulled pork, donated and cooked by Brooksville Beef, baked beans, rolls, donated by Texas Roadhouse, and macaroni and cheese cooked by the Hernando High School’s culinary department would be served before everyone would filter into the gym to get a glimpse of what the season has in store. Prior alumni wrestlers come back to wrestle and some of the up and coming youth participate too.
This year’s event, the 5th annual, was a little different, wrestlers still working for their gear, selling tickets and preparing and hoping for their upcoming season. Wednesday night’s scrimmage event saw masked coaches, referees, and limited spectators. The wrestlers were masked unless on the mat competing. Truly, a small price to pay to still be able to wrestle.
