Brooksville, FL: New 4-H Archery Club for youth ages 8-18 beginning January 2021
UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County 4-H Youth Development is pleased to introduce their newest club, the Citrus Archery 4-H Club. This opportunity to learn about archery and practice skills on a certified field range is made possible by our newest volunteer, Dave Ireland.
Dave has been an archery competitor since 1968 and has won hundreds of matches and awards on local, state, and international levels. He continues to compete today, keeping his skills polished. He is a USA certified level 2 instructor (currently working on his level 3) and has recently completed his 4-H instructor/leader certification. Dave has presided over a few youth programs in the past and helped start some others. Now he is ready to share those skills through the 4-H program.
Why 4-H and what makes it different? Children learn better by experiencing, reflecting, sharing, and experiencing again. UF/IFAS Extension 4-H is the hands-on youth development program of the University of Florida whose mission is to use a learn-by-doing approach and caring adults to help youth gain the knowledge and life skills they need to be productive, responsible citizens. We are the only youth development program with direct access to technological advances from University of Florida research, and as this is the basis of all programming, we provide the avenue for children to succeed. Youth involved in programs such as 4-H are less likely to participate in risky behavior, more likely to pursue higher education, and contribute to their community as adults at a higher rate (Lerner et al, 2012). Involvement levels are up to each family. We offer club, county, district, state, and national level opportunities. Some events are competitive, others are just participation, but all are educational and hands-on.
The Citrus Archery 4-H club will meet the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month beginning at 10 a.m. The first meeting will be an orientation meeting with members and parents/guardians. Please contact 4-H Agent Nancy Moores at 352-540-6229 for more information about this or any of our other 4-H opportunities. Youth must be at least 8 years of age as of September 1, 2020 to be eligible for this project, but 4-H has projects for those 5-18 There is an annual membership fee of $20 to join 4-H for those 8 and over, and enrollment is done online at v2.4honline.com.
