BROOKSVILLE- If there is one thing you can count on when it comes to Hernando County winter sports, it is that the Nature Coast boys basketball team will be a competitive squad.
The Sharks (5-2) under the watch of longtime bench boss Dave Pisarcik have only had one losing season in the school’s existence and that was Nature Coast’s first campaign back in 2005-2006 when they went 8-11. Since then? Nature Coast has had 14 straight seasons in which they had a record above the .500 mark and the Sharks are continuing the trend this 2020-2021 season.
Nature Coast is off to a good start and will head into the annual NCT Christmas Tournament with some confidence as they’ve notched some wins along the way. The Sharks reeled off four wins in a row to start the season against Bushnell South Sumter (68-35 win), Inverness Citrus (56-18 win), Hudson (48-40 win), and Crystal River (60-44 win). It looked like the Sharks might be slowing a bit when they suffered back-to-back losses to Lecanto (60-45 loss) and Wesley Chapel (57-41 loss).
But Pisarcik and crew have bounced back right before the annual tournament started up, as the Sharks knocked off county rival Weeki Wachee (63-31 win) and Hernando. Now with a 6-2 record going into the tournament, the Sharks are heating up again at the right time as they have some tough opponents taking part. To start off the tourney, Nature Coast will have a favorable matchup against Tampa Jefferson, who is 1-10 on the season so far.
