A 33-year-old female from Wesley Chapel driving a sedan with 3 passengers was traveling eastbound on Powell Road, A 49-year-old male from Weeki Wachee driving an SUV was traveling behind the sedan on Powell Road. At the intersection of Birt Street, the sedan appeared to turn onto Birt Street, completing a wide U-Turn, and entered the path of the SUV. As a result, the SUV collided with the left side of the sedan. Post-impact, the sedan rotated to final rest along the north shoulder as the SUV came to a controlled stop. A 53-year-old passenger in the sedan who was not wearing a seatbelt suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, wearing their seatbelts a 15-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries, a 1-year-old had minor injuries, and the driver suffered no injuries. The driver of the SUV who was wearing his seatbelt suffered no injuries but was later arrested by FHP Troopers for DUI.
