A 17-year-old Spring Hill woman is dead after stepping on a downed power line on Evenglow Avenue on Sunday, April 11.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, the unnamed teen was driving a Dodge Avenger car northbound on Evenglow Ave near Hyacinth Lane around noon on April 11 when the vehicle collided with a live power line that had been downed by a fallen tree during the series of strong storms that tore through Hernando County.

Upon the collision, the vehicle caught fire. The young woman escaped through the car’s passenger door, but suffered fatal injuries when she stepped on the live power line, the report said.

She died at the scene, according to the FHP.
