Retired Brooksville Police Chief George Turner has been chosen by the Town of Longboat Key to serve as the Interim Police Chief of its police department.

Turner served as the Chief of the Brooksville, Florida Police Department for 11 years between 2007 and 2018, when in June 2018 the City of Brooksville Police Department was officially disbanded. The Hernando County Sheriff Office now provides law enforcement services.

Prior to assuming his duties in Brooksville, Turner served in the Longboat Key Police Department as a Police Officer rising to the rank of Captain.

Pending a background check and compliance with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) retirements for sworn law enforcement officers, Turner will begin his duties in Longboat Key on April 30.
