An SUV driven by a 29-year-old female from Moncks Corner SC was traveling southbound on US-301. A second vehicle, a tractor-trailer driven by a 42-year-old male from Weeki Wachee was traveling eastbound on SR-50. At the intersection, the traffic signal was inoperative due to a fire in the area. The tractor-trailer entered the intersection moments before the SUV entered the intersection. As a result, the front of the SUV collided with the left side of the unloaded flatbed tractor-trailer. Post-impact, the tractor-trailer jackknifed onto the south shoulder of the roadway and came to final rest. The SUV rotated to the east portion of the intersection, ejecting the two adult passengers, a 53-year-old female from Moncks Corner SC and a 34-year-old male also from Moncks Corner SC who were not wearing their seatbelts before coming to final rest on SR-50, east of the intersection. Both adult passengers suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the SUV who was wearing her seatbelt suffered serious injuries and two children in the vehicle a 1-year-old and an 8-year-old suffered minor injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.
As of 8:00 AM 6/4/21, US-301 is CLOSED between Ridge Manor Boulevard and Dogwood Drive, and Cortez Boulevard is CLOSED westbound onto US-301.
