Bills pertaining to insurance reform, education funding, a moment of silence in schools and wildlife became law when they were signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Here are those measures –
HB529 – The Moment of Silence bill – Signed into law June 14, the Moment of Silence measure requires public school principals to require certain teachers to set aside time for a moment of silence at the beginning of each school day. It also prohibits teachers from suggesting the nature of any reflection in which a student may engage during that time.
Effective date – July 1, 2021
SB 76 –The law reduces attorney fees and claim-related litigation by establishing a sliding scale for paying claims on roofs that are 10 years old or older, and seeks to rein in the cost of lawsuits by making contractors who accept the assignment of benefits responsible for legal fees in disputes with insurance companies. Effective date – July 1, 2021
HB827 – The school district funding measure requires school districts to allocate a certain amount of specified funds to programs that prepare students to enroll in Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), requires school districts to distribute specified bonuses to certain teachers providing pre-AICE instruction and requires that bonuses based on student’s score on AICE examinations to be paid to all AICE teachers.
Effective Date – July 1, 2021.
CS/CS/SB 1018 – Large-mouth Bass – The measure requires the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in consultation with specified entities, adopt a rule requiring certain facilities to maintain stock acquisition documentation or records of genetic testing related to Florida large-mouth bass, and authorizes the sale of Florida large-mouth bass as food fish under certain circumstances.
Effective Date – July 1, 2021
