The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating circumstances surrounding the apparent murder-suicide of two men found shot outside a residence in Brooksville.
HCSO Media Relations Manager Denise M. Moloney said that after midnight on Sept. 23, Deputies responded to a report that two people had been shot at a residence on Fort Dade Avenue in Brooksville.
Upon arrival, they found two men with gunshot wounds lying on the road outside the residence.
“Both males were pronounced deceased on scene,” Moloney said.
A firearm was found a few feet from one of the bodies, she said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the two deceased men were related and had a close relationship and would frequently argue, but would reconcile shortly afterward.
They also told deputies that the men’s arguments had recently become more frequent.
At the time of the incident, family members had heard the pair arguing, but were not alarmed until they heard gunshots and found the men dead in the roadway outside the house. A family member subsequently called for 911.The preliminary investigation also revealed that an argument between the men escalated to the point that one of them produced a handgun and shot the other. The shooter then apparently turned the same firearm on himself and took his own life.
“The names of the deceased are not being released due to Marsy’s Law and the familial relationship between the two parties,” Moloney said.
Autopsy results are pending, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
