A Spring Hill man was critically injured after he failed to stop for a traffic signal and the sedan he was driving collided with a moving van in Pasco County.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokesman Sgt. Steven Gaskins said that at 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 a 21-year-old Spring Hill man was driving a sedan northbound on US-19, while a U-Haul moving van driven by a 53-year-old man from Hudson, was traveling eastbound on Hudson Avenue.
At the intersection, the driver of the sedan failed to stop for a red traffic signal and plowed into the right side of the van.
After the collision, the van came to rest at the edge of the intersection.
The sedan continued to travel into an adjacent cemetery where it ultimately crashed into a statue causing it to collapse and damage a gravesite.
The Spring Hill man was critically injured in the incident. The driver of the van and his 53-year-old passenger sustained only minor injuries.
