The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is hoping that the public can help them solve a 2018 home invasion case that left a 22-year-old man dead in his Spring Hill home.
HCSO Public Relations Officer (PIO) Denise M. Moloney said that in the early morning hours of Oct. 16, 2018 Alek Smith, 22 was killed during a home invasion on Legend Street in Spring Hill.
Detectives have been working the cases since it occurred, but are now reaching out to the public for their help in solving it.
“Even the smallest piece of information may be useful,” Moloney said.

Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous should call Hernando County Crime Stoppers at 1-866-990-TIPS (8477) or submit their tips at http://www.hernandocountycrimestoppers.com.
They could qualify for a $5,000 cash reward, Moloney said.
The Florida Sheriff’s Association Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program (CAAP) is also offering an additional $5,000 award for information leading to the identification those responsible for Smith’s murder raising the total reward to $10,000.
“To be eligible for reward, tips must be submitted through Crime Stoppers,” Moloney said. “The person providing the information can and will remain anonymous.”
