Seeking Art for “Up All Night” Exhibit

Hernando artists no doubt will be “Up All Night” coming up with beautiful, dynamic artwork to line the walls of the UPTOWN Art Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall.

UPTOWN invites artists to submit 3-5 pieces of their artwork Monday, October 18, – Friday October 22, 10:30 am-2:30 pm., for submission to the Up All Night exhibit November 5, through December 31. The exhibit reception will take place Friday, November 5, from 5:30 pm-7:30 p.m. Music and refreshments will be provided.

“UPTOWN Art Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall would be pleased to have you submit 3-5 pieces of your artwork painted or created while: “Up All Night,” said Pedram Moghaddam, Gallery Coordinator, Uptown Art Gallery, City Of Brooksville. “While the theme is not mandatory, any attempts will be appreciated. This is your chance to hone into your creativity and shine, set the record straight, be bold, or even reserved by expressing subtleties.”

Moghaddam invites artists to “Dazzle the community with your individual style and/or mastered techniques! Anything goes – fun pieces, serious pieces, or your favorite style/era (cubist, impressionist, expressionist, etc). You may have created a fun cartoon or a serious portrait, related to an animal or pet.”

Moghaddam says that the night time can be the right time for artistic inspiration.

“Well, it has to do with being in the “Zone” when art making. The sense of time and space seems to stand still and you are creating well into the night and early morning. Sometimes, nothing comes out of it until the time you finally stop, when the sun is coming up….” he said. “This, I tied into basically what I added in the “Call for Art” – Night creatures, longest night of the year, the time of harvest etc. I thought it was a nice way to tie it all in.”

The artistic process, in Moghaddam’s eyes, can take on special meaning when extended throughout the evening.

“You are still working during the wee hours of the morning! The hours where only nocturnal or night creatures roam,” he said. “A time when the nightfall overpowers the light of day, moving into winter. The longest night of the year is upon us! This is a time when some flowers, plants, trees, and animals become dormant or hibernate. Use this creative energy along with your stylistic elements and/or preferred techniques. Name your work after the inspiration.”

The artwork must be submitted no later than Friday, October 22, 2021 (deadline for submissions), between 10:30 am-2:30 pm.

“Be creative and have fun. ALL mediums are welcome, including 3-d, glass, and Digital art if you have any,” said Moghaddam. “We do have display cases to lock smaller items up in ( for security). All artwork should be gallery ready to hang, with a wire securely attached to the back or bottom of your work. If the piece is not for sale, please state that also. Student work is welcome.”

The Uptown Art Gallery at the Brooksville City Hall is open to the public daily, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except for holidays. The gallery is located at 201 Howell Avenue, Brooksville.
