Fire swept through a gas station in Spring Hill on Monday causing major damage to the interior of the store. No one was hurt in the incident.
Kenneth D. Warren, Division Chief of EMS and public information officer (PIO) for the Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) said that around 3 p.m. on Oct. 25, firefighters responded to a call from an employee of the Mobil Service Station, 5244 Mariner Blvd. in Spring Hill reporting that smoke was billowing from behind a cooler in the store.
Those inside the building at the time of the incident were evacuated before fire crews arrived, Warren said.
At the scene, firefighters discovered black smoke and visible flames rising from the building.
Crews were able to put down the blaze in less than five minutes, but due to extensive fire damage, the gas station will be closed for an extensive period of time, Warren said.
The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the exact cause and origin of the blaze.
