Gov. Ron DeSantis may seek legislation that will prevent private contractors that transport illegal aliens to Florida from doing business here.
According to DeSantis, the effort stems from reports that private-sector contractors have been hired by the federal government to transport illegal aliens from border states and elsewhere to Florida without advance notice to local authorities. Among those brought here was a man in his twenties who was transported to Jacksonville and who later was accused of committing a murder here, he said.
“It’s reckless and it’s wrong and I’m going to ask the legislature to see what can we do,” DeSantis said, “If you’re bringing in problems like that then we have to reevaluate what you are able to do businesswise in the state of Florida.”
DeSantis said that he would also explore how he might address the issue by issuing an executive order.
The Governor made his remarks during a Nov. 4 press conference in Jacksonville.
