A worker at the Cemex Brooksville Aggregates Quarry has died after he became entangled in the equipment he was operating.
Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Media Relations Manager Denise M. Moloney said that just after 9 a.m. on Dec. 3, HCSO deputies along with personnel from the Hernando County Fire Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a 911 call reporting that a man working at the Cemex Brooksville Aggregates Quarry, 11430 Camp Mine Rd., had been injured.
At the scene, a primary investigation revealed that the man was using heavy machinery to work in the portion of the quarry known as the “pit” when he became entangled in the equipment he was using.
Other mine workers separated the man from the equipment and administered first aid after he was freed.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene after HCFES crews arrived, Moloney said.
HCSO detectives, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) are all conducting separate investigations into the incident.
