A Spring Hill teen is dead after the sedan in which she was riding collided with a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) just before Christmas.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Public Information Officer (PIO) Sgt. Steve Gaskins, shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 23, a sedan driven by a 20-year-old man from Spring Hill was traveling on the northbound I-75 Milepost 321 Exit Ramp while an SUV was traveling southbound on CR-475. At the intersection of the exit ramp and the roadway, the sedan failed to stop or yield for oncoming traffic and entered the path of the SUV.
As a result, the front of the SUV collided with the left side of the sedan. After they collided, both vehicles rotated until they came to rest along the east shoulder of the roadside where the sedan also collided with a wire fence.
The driver of the sedan sustained serious injuries in the incident. A 67-year-old male passenger from Spring Hill sustained minor injuries, while an 18-year-old female passenger from Spring Hill sustained fatal injuries.
All three occupants of the sedan were transported to an area hospital where the woman died of her injuries on Dec. 24.
The driver of the SUV was uninjured in the incident, Gaskins said.
