For only one hour on April 16, those who visit Citgo gas station at 709 S. Broad Street, Brooksville will receive a 50 cent per gallon discount on gas purchases. Oh, and prayers and window washes will be thrown in free of charge! Community Bible Church in Brooksville will be hosting a “Gas Buy Down” on Saturday, April 16, from 11 am -12 pm. The church will be partnering with Citgo to host this special event. Church Secretary at Community Bible Church Dianne McCarthy stated, “In this us against the world, where people of all walks of life are having it tough, we want people to know that we care. And economically, we want people to know we’re here to help.”
McCarthy credits the “Gas Buy Down” concept to Community Bible Church Pastor Joel Hastings, who had tried this promotion at other churches under his administration. Hastings stated, “This is a great way for us to bless the community, to let them know of Christ’s love.”
Indeed, when it comes to the “Gas Buy Down,” prayers will be served up right alongside petrol. “When people pull up, we’ll pump their gas, wash their windows, and say a prayer with them if there’s a need. There’s no pressure,” said Hastings. In fact, faith is the foundation of this campaign. Pastor Hastings stated, “Jesus says that we are his body and his feet. Christ died for us, and asked us to do practical things for others.”
Citgo Manager Darin Engle is proud to co-host the “Gas Buy Down.” He stated, “If we can get the word of God out and pray for people, and help them pay for gas. That’s a win/win situation.”
Dianne McCarthy agrees. She states, “In the end, It’s all about love.” It’s not every day that a gas promotion holds a decided Biblical precedent. (Mark 10:42) “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
