The Hernando Sun covers high school sports throughout the school year and with the high school basketball season concluding not long ago, I have put together the Hernando Sun All-County teams for both the boys and girls. Each team that was covered within the county will be featured within the all-county teams from the 2021-2022 campaign. The all-county teams are compiled based on regular-season statistics, team accomplishments, and regular season performances.
Below is the 2021-2022 Hernando Sun All-County Boys Basketball team.
Guard – Charlie Marsh, Weeki Wachee, SR: The Weeki Wachee Hornets had themselves a bounce back season. The Hornets were nearly above the .500 mark and much of that can be attested to Marsh. The senior guard finished the season averaging 15.9 points a game in 24 games played for Weeki Wachee.
Guard – Tre Joyner, Central, SR: The Bears were one of the top teams in the county once again and the senior guard played like one of the best players in Hernando County bar none. Central went deep into the playoffs and Joyner averaged 19.3 points a game and also added 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.8 steals.
Forward – RJ Wilson, Hernando, JR: Wilson has been one of the more tough players inside of the painted area in the county. Playing through 23 games, Wilson finished with a team-high 12.6 points and also added averages of 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.7 steals.
Forward – Canyon Anderson, Nature Coast, JR: The junior forward was one of the team’s top scorers and had himself a solid junior season. In the Nature Coast Christmas Tournament, Anderson was named to the all-tournament team. The Sharks finished 13-14 on the season.
Center – Ronnie Roberts, Springstead, SR: The senior center was a mainstay in the front court for Springstead all season long. Roberts led the Eagles in many statistical categories, as he averaged 12.5 points per game and 6.7 rebounds.
Utility – Jacob Gallop, Hernando Christian Academy, SR: Though the Lions didn’t have a great record on the court at 5-16, Gallop had himself another stellar season. The junior guard averaged a team-high 26.5 points, 16.9 rebounds and 4.0 blocks a game.
Below is the 2021-2022 Hernando Sun All-County Girls Basketball team.
Guard- Paige Atwater, Weeki Wachee, SO: The sophomore guard was the key cog for the Hornets’ run to a district championship and the playoffs. Atwater had herself a solid first season and averaged 12.2 points per game, 1.7 assists and 2.2 steals.
Guard- Sy Crowley, Hernando, SR: Crowley helped make the Hernando Leopards one of the top teams in the county at 17-6, and her backcourt presence was huge all season long. The senior guard led the Leopards with 19.4 points a game with 9.7 rebounds per contest.
Guard- Lydia Jackson, Hernando, JR: Aside from fellow teammate Sy Crowley, Jackson was the next player in line that Hernando relied upon during its 17-6 season. The junior shooting guard averaged 10.5 points per game, 2.7 steals, and shot 41 percent from the field for the Leopards.
Forward- Princess Hester, Weeki Wachee, SR: The Hornets had themselves a nice bounce-back season at 20-8 and senior center Princess Hester was one of the main reasons. Hester averaged a team-high 13.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest.
Center- Heaven Lee, Nature Coast, SR: The Sharks’ senior center was once again one of the top front-court players in the Tampa Bay Area. Lee averaged a team-high 18.0 points per game and also pulled down 5.8 boards per contest.
Utility- Emma Dedmon, Hernando Christian, SR: The Lions went 5-16 this past season and the team is going through a rebuild. James will be a player they will sorely miss, though, as the senior averaged 9.2 points a night for Hernando Christian Academy.
