It was another stellar season of prep baseball throughout Hernando County, as the Hernando Leopards were the last county team left standing making it to the state semifinals. From the start of the season back in February all the way to the Class 4A region finals, there were plenty of individual performances that should be recognized. We compiled a list of the top baseball players from this past season with the Hernando Sun’s All-Hernando Baseball Team.
P – Sean Keegan, Sophomore, Nature Coast Technical: He was instrumental in the Sharks’ 2022 season. Keegan had a 2.70 ERA, 7-2 record and struck out 45 of the batters he faced.
P – Michael Savarese, Junior, Hernando: He went 8-2 with a 0.75 ERA, with 102 strikeouts and 6 earned runs through 14 appearances. He only walked 33 batters in 56 innings pitched and 235 batters faced. He also hit five home runs at the plate.
C – Jacob Haines, Senior, Weeki Wachee: Haines committed zero errors while hitting .333 with 11 runs and four doubles.
INF – Justin Sesera, Freshman, Central: The junior was stellar through 26 games during the season as he batted .296, drove in 15 runs on 21 hits.
INF – Dominique Janssens, Sophomore, Hernando: Janssens had one of the top seasons of all infielders in Hernando County, as the sophomore Florida commitment batted a team-high .413 with 31 hits, 26 runs batted in, eight doubles and a home run.
INF – Gabe Tafelski, Senior, Hernando: He hit .271 and had 26 hits, three home runs while playing solid in the infield for the Leopards.
INF – Brendan Anderson, Sophomore, Springstead: The sophomore infielder was one of the top players for the Eagles, batting a team-high .417 with 20 hits, 13 runs batted in, three doubles and three triples.
OF – Anthony Talpa, Junior, Hernando: He scored 31 runs, 32 hits and 24 RBIs to go along with a .400 batting average.
OF – Justin Tranum, Sophomore, Central: Tranum was a big part of Central’s outfield and batted .330 with 29 hits, 16 runs batted in and four triples.
OF – Dominic Gattinella, Senior, Nature Coast Technical: The outfielder had one of the best batting averages for outfielders in the county at .355 and scored 15 runs. He also had 22 hits, 19 RBIs and four home runs on the season.
UTL – Ty Grover, Junior, Springstead: Grover was stellar at the plate for the Eagles, as he had a .407 batting average along with 33 hits, 29 runs batted in and eight doubles.
