The Hernando Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is seeking the public’s help in solving a murder that took place in Spring Hill four years ago.
According to the HCSO, the incident occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 16, 2018 when multiple gunmen entered the home of Alek Smith intending to conduct a home invasion there.
While his girlfriend and their baby slept in nearby bedrooms, Smith confronted the gunmen and Smith “became the victim of homicidal violence.” the HCSO said.
.“Detectives have worked continuously on this case since the date of occurrence, however, they still need your help,” said HCSO Public Relations Manager Denise Moloney. “Even the smallest piece of information may be helpful.”

The Florida Sheriff’s Association Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program (CAAP) is also offering an enhanced reward of $5,000 for information leading to the identity of the person(s) responsible for Smith’s the murder of Alek Smith.
