On Saturday, October 22, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) will be holding its Annual Safety and Fun Fest. It will take place in downtown Brooksville at Hernando Park on Fort Dade Avenue where the band shell is and all up and down Main Street.

This annual event, which will run from 4 pm to 9 pm, is a boon to the local economy and is an enjoyable activity for the whole family.

The goal of this event is to provide a fun and educational experience for the public, as well as enhance all first responder efforts to help build a strong, safe, healthy and united community.

This free event showcases all of Hernando County’s First Responders from deputy sheriffs and state troopers to firefighters and other emergency medical personnel.

The Civilian Mounted and K-9 units, the Aviation, and Drone units will also be there, along with the SWAT team. They will do demonstrations and talk to the public. The Brooksville Fire Department and Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services will participate, as well. Also on hand will be personnel representing the city and county government.

The Safety & Fun Fest will also feature a variety of vendors from arts and crafts to face painting to chiropractors and insurance companies and everything in between.

Of course, there will be plenty to eat from food trucks to various frozen drink vendors. (reworded sentence) To add to the fun, there will be an emcee/DJ to make announcements and provide music. (reword sentence) Since the event is close to Halloween, children and pets can enter a special Halloween costume contest. More details will come about the contest on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

There are still a few vendor spaces available for businesses, churches, and non-profit organizations to promote themselves. For a donation of $30 to Hernando County Sheriff’s Charities, a business can reserve a vendor space for its table or booth. Food vendors will pay $100. The donation requirement is waived for churches and non-profit organizations. Spaces are limited and are going fast. More than 80 vendors have already signed up. The deadline to apply to be a vendor is October 7 unless all spots are sold out before. You can sign up at the following link: https://forms.gle/vja8LU4E6zLP9xXJ6

Michael Terry, Deputy PIO at the Sheriff’s Office, stated, “The goal with an event like this is to help keep our lines of communication open with the people we serve. What better way to do this than through an event like the safety and fun fest.” Terry added, “In this setting we can have a relaxed conversation. They can ask questions and they can get to know us on a personal level.”
So mark your calendars for Saturday, October 22. This year’s Safety & Fun Fest promises to provide plenty of entertainment and education for all.
