On Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, a multicultural parade through downtown Brooksville kicked off the annual Founders’ Week celebration running through Oct. 15. A festival followed the parade, where the Weeki Wachee Wonders mobile murals were unveiled.
Still ahead for the city’s week-long celebration is the ceremony honoring the 2022 Great Brooksvillian Tom Varn on Oct 10 at 5:30 pm at the City of Brooksville’s City Hall in Council Chambers, located at 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville, and the public is invited.
The “Great Brooksvillian of the Year” is an annual award program established by the City of Brooksville, Florida in 2002, whereby distinguished individuals are nominated by citizens to be recognized and honored for their significant contributions to the history, culture, and/or economy of our community or have had connections and/or ties to our community.
Then get ready for Friday Night Live on Oct. 14, 6-9:30 pm at Hernando Park 205 East Fort Dade Ave. The Embry Brothers Band will be performing and it will also feature an artisan market, local food, and a full bar. Admission is free.
Oct. 15, 2022, is Founders’ Day: a free event from 10 am- 2 pm in downtown Brooksville. A wide variety of activities are scheduled including a fall festival, historic reenactors, pioneer activities, the Great Brooksville Games, Mechanical Bull, Beard Mustache and Mullet Contest, Cooking Contest, Corn Treats, food, and artisan vendors. Put your skills to the test in the Great Brooksville Games with the tangerine toss, egg on a spoon races, cornhole, a corn shucking contest, and cattle roping.
