The second annual Brooksville’s Hometown Christmas will be celebrated on December 17 starting at 10 am and running through December 18 at 4 pm, located at Christ Lutheran Church, 475 North Ave. W. This event is brought to the community by the organizers of the Brooksville Pumpkin Patch. This free and festive event will offer fun for the whole family, along with ample opportunities for local artists to show and sell their masterworks.
True to the spirit of the holiday season, Santa Clause will be making an appearance at this holiday festivity. “Santa will be here for photo ops,” said Jessica Longoria, organizer of the Brooksville Pumpkin Patch and community activist. “This will be a fun event for the family.”
The fun surrounding this event isn’t just for the community either, the Brooksville’s Hometown Christmas organizers had just as much fun setting up the event as they would have attending it too! “This is our second year,” said Longoria. “We had such a good time, we decided to do it again.”
Ferric and Flame, creators of handmade jewelry, restored vintage tools and general blacksmith goods, will also make an appearance at the celebration, as well as SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco). The overall focus of the event is on the arts. “We’ll host local crafters, makers and artists,” said Longoria.”They represent our community.”
Artists still can apply to participate in this arts-centered happening, which will focus on soapers, woodcarvers, crocheters, painters of acrylics, resins, etc. The art they create, from quilts to jewels to jewelry boxes to wreaths to birdhouses and even arty-likenesses of jellyfish, would make ideal holiday gifts. “We absolutely would still love to hear from artists, as well as musicians, who might like to participate,” said Longoria. Kids can also get in on the act and exercise their own creativity by making Christmas crafts.
Food at this celebration will include Cuban sandwiches and Moroccan-style cuisine, plus lots of treats; with featured vendors including Roadside Snack, Kona Ice and Steve D’s Philly Cheesesteaks, JennaBear Sweets, Queens Cookie Jar and Baked By Nellie. “At this event, even the food is fun,” said Longoria.
