Hernando County and the City of Brooksville have been awarded more than $1 million through the Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The program funds economic development, commercial and neighborhood revitalization, housing rehabilitation, and infrastructure improvements.
“Making investments in our small communities helps build opportunities for generations to come,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said in announcing the grants. “I am proud to make these awards to help them build economic resiliency and strengthen their communities.”
As a result of the awards, the City of Brooksville received $750,000 to relocate water mains, pave streets and install street lighting, fire hydrants, and repair sidewalks.
Hernando County received $750,000 to rehabilitate or replace homes of 11 low-to-moderate income households.
The local grants represent a portion of the total $35 million in awards to a total of 48 communities throughout the state.
