The new year is all about making new beginnings. And some beautiful new beginnings most definitely can be found at the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. Founded in 1957, The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches has been improving the lives of at-risk children through its seven Florida locations and comprehensive programs. The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches is credited with helping more than 173,000 children and families in Florida. And now, in the season of giving, a Hernando County business has brought some seasonal sunshine to kids who need it the most.

Under the guidance of owner Teri Nichols, Spherion Brooksville recently presented a $1,000 check to Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Inc., as part of the company’s annual Community Giveback campaign.

Spherion’s Community Giveback Program highlights the efforts of local organizations that are creating change in communities such as Brooksville. Spherion Brooksville donated a $1,000 check to Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Inc. during a check presentation ceremony December 6.

“It’s always feels wonderful to give back,” said Nichols. “Spherion makes donations as part of the Giving Tuesday effort; and this year, my staff suggested that the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Inc., would be the perfect beneficiary.”

After her visit to the youth ranch, Nichols agreed.

“This ranch takes care of the most vulnerable children,” said Nichols. “The ranch allows them to stay as long as they need to, with the staff serving as parents, grandparents and role models.”

The Sheriffs Youth Ranch program centers around its nationally renowned network of residential child-care campuses, an array of cottages and villas throughout the state of Florida offering a stable home to needy children and staffed by people “well-equipped to nurture needy, neglected boys and girls, and provide a warm sense of security, guidance and tenderness…”cottage parents,” who help develop a strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, teamwork and respect in each boy and girl.” And the ranch hosts overnight summer camps.

“Their brand of transitional housing is right along the lines of what we do here, and the causes we support,” said Nichols, adding that the $1,000 donation was made possible through a nationally administered Spherion corporate grant program.

Nichols joined Spherion staff Tuesday, December 6, to visit Sheriffs Ranches Enterprises local Thrift Store, located at 1430 Pinehurst Dr,, Spring Hill, to present their donation check.

“We were really excited to accept this check on behalf of the Sheriffs Youth Ranch,” said Anthony Littrell, store manager. “So proud.”

Littrell says that the donation will go directly to benefit the kids of Sheriffs Youth Ranches, based locally at various ranches across Florida.

“Every dollar goes to help the kids,” said Littrell.

And the help is appreciated.

“It’s an honor to be chosen,” said Littrell. “We are honored and blessed.”
