Kiwanis Charity Yard Sale

The Kiwanis Club of Weeki Wachee has giving down to an art! The club’s Annual Arts and Crafts Yard Sale will be celebrated from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 18, in the parking lot of Lucas, Macyszyn and Dyer Law Firm.

“This year, instead of a regular yard sale I changed it to an arts and crafts yard sale and now it will be an annual event,” explained Jamie Hamilton, president of Kiwanis of Weeki Wachee. “We will have up to ten arts and crafts tables and up to 10 yard sale tables. The yard sale items will vary and will make it more upscale with a variety of items so everyone who comes should be able to find something of value.”

All of this is for the kids! “So in the past two years we’ve just done regular yard sales and they tend to be decently successful,” Hamilton said. “But since it’s my first year as president I set a goal to make all our events bigger and better so we can get more of the community involved, raise more money, and then in return donate more money back into the community to help the kids in need.”

This year’s yard sale proceeds, in fact, will help provide scholastic scholarships to kids. “The proceeds from the yard sale will help us to raise money for scholarships for two lucky Key Clubbers at Weeki Wachee High School (with the Key Club being a student organization that focuses on community service and mentorship) as well as other events we pay for kids to attend like the recent circus that was in town we were able to pay for twenty kids to attend and also paid for kids to attend a theater training at a local theater we partner with yearly.”

The sale promises to offer a bounty of treasures for shoppers. Available at the sale will be a vast array of handcrafted arts and crafts, along with a selection of yard sale items. And lunch will be available for sale, courtesy of an onsite food truck. “So far we have everything from custom clothes and household items, beautiful paper flower arrangements that are gorgeous and a lady with some awesome chocolate covered delights,” said Hamilton.

Among the biggest delights up for offer at The Kiwanis Club of Weeki Wachee Annual Arts and Crafts Yard Sale, is the opportunity to help brighten the lives and futures of Hernando County kids.
