Notes from the Museums: Homes on the Hill

The historic homes on East Fort Dade and Museum Court were built on the crest of the hill for good reasons. They were built to take advantage of a gorgeous view, dry land and the breezes aloft to cool the Florida summers.

The Historic Home Tours taking place on Saturday, February 18th will allow you to imagine life during the late 1800s and the construction boom around 1910. Tours start at the May-Stringer House (601 Museum Ct) and will begin at 10 am. The last tickets will be sold at 2pm. You will want to come early because your ticket will include tours of the May-Stringer, the 1885 Depot Museum and the Countryman One Room Schoolhouse; that’s eight buildings! Another special event of the day is the “meet the author” and book signing located at the 1885 Depot Museum. Local writers Sarah Nachin, Suzanne Touchton, Johanna Bolton and Linda Welker will be present at this event.

Tickets are $50 for adults, $25 for children six and above, and will be sold at the three museum buildings on the day of the event.
