Hernando County will get more than $300,000 in grant funds to create a plan to boost safety on streets and roads throughout the area. The grant was awarded via the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) written into the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (H.R. 3684), which was passed by Congress last year.
Specifically, the $328,374 grant will be used by the County government to create a comprehensive action plan to identify low-cost, high-impact ways to improve thoroughfare safety, including through road safety audits aimed at finding ways to prevent deaths and serious injuries on area roadways.
Developing the plan is required in order for the County to seek other SS4A grants intended to implement the strategies that are contained in it, according to Dominique Holmes, public information coordinator for the Hernando County government.
