With the arrival of a new season comes the blooming forth of some radiant spring florals and also a local annual plant sale that has become a community tradition! Hosted by the Spring Hill Garden Club, the 2023 Spring Plant Sale will be celebrated at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens on Friday, April 7, from 9 am to 2 pm, and on Saturday, April 8, from 9 am to 12 pm.
Offering tried and true plants of the season, guests can shop for the perfect plants for their homes with help from knowledgeable Spring Hill Garden Club members.
This plant sale, much like the lovely garden space that hosts it, boasts a rich and bountiful history here in Hernando County. “The Spring Hill Garden Club acquired a 99-year lease agreement for the land in 1994 from Hernando Co. One acre of the land was to be used for a plant nursery and the remaining 4 acres for a botanical garden,” read information prepared for the Hernando Sun Newspaper by Nursery Manager Kathy Wolfe and Garden Manager Mary Wuest. “That same year, the clearing of the land began with the help of some community businesses. The first garden area was opened to the public in 2002, and during the next 10 + years, a total of 21 themed gardens were created.”
Funds from the plant sale literally form the seeds that allow this garden to grow year after year in Spring Hill. The Nature Coast Botanical Garden is the project of the Spring Hill Garden Club and is a nonprofit completely run by volunteers, with no paid employees. All funding comes from the Plant Sales, weddings, and other events and donations from our visitors.
The Nature Coast Botanical Gardens is a community fixture in Hernando County, one that promises an aura of peace and radiance to all who enter its realm. The gardens remain free for all to visit, pet-friendly, and open every day of the year from dawn to dusk.
Furthermore, plant sales form a pivotal part of the garden experience. “Plants are sold on Saturday and Monday from 9-12 all year with two big sales in the spring and fall,” stated the supplied information. “We feature plants that are propagated from the gardens and our members’ gardens, along with plants that are purchased from local wholesalers. We try to make sure that our plants are tried and true in this area of Florida and will survive in your landscapes.”
The gardens’ seasonal sales feature a lush variety of blooms ripe for the picking. “For our two big sales, we bring in a large amount of plants, and our garden club members are available to help you pick out plants for your homes.” Visit Naturegardens.Com for more information about the Spring Hill Garden Club’s 2023 Spring Plant Sale at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens.
