The Heimatabend is a tradition and celebration that reigns as one of the cornerstones of German culture. Now on April 16, this grand celebration is coming to Hernando County to give the community a glimpse of German life and culture.
The German American Club of Spring Hill will celebrate Heimatabend on Sunday, April 16th, at the Hernando Shrine Club, 13400 Montour St, Brooksville. As guests dance to live music by Manni Daum and sumptuous food that will include open faced sandwiches, coffee, and cake (included in their ticket price), they will be honoring a time-honored expression of German culture.
“At their Heimatabend is an event where we remember and treasure the heritage of our, or our ancestor’s, country of birth, specifically the regions within the country,” said Secretary of the German-American Club of Spring Hill, Jack Yaskulski.
The dress code for this event will be ‘Trachten’ or Club-casual. “Members and guests will be dressed in traditional clothing typically worn in those areas,” said Yaskulski. “Tables will be decorated with small items from the ‘old country.’”
Guests will dance to tunes that represent a lush spectrum of musical stylings at Heimatabend–as performed by Manni Daum, an act specializing in native German and popular dance music that plays at German-American clubs and other venues across the state. “There will be a variety of music from overseas but also American standards. Every song has a nice rhythm for dancing or just listening,” stated Yaskulski.
The doors will open at 2:30 pm, with dancing from 3 to 7 p. B.Y.O.B. Tickets are available in advance only: members $20, guests $24. For tickets call Lisa Yaskulski, social secretary, at 352-688-3744. Visit the website: germanclubspringhill.org.
