A drug bust by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Intelligence Unit resulted in a reunion between a young man and his mother at the Hernando County Detention Center earlier this month.
According to the HCSO, on April 10, members of the Intelligence Unit tried to make a traffic stop on a motor scooter near Sunshine Grove Road and Cortez Boulevard when its operator, later identified as 27-year-old Brent Abdallah, sped away in an attempt to flee. In the process, deputies saw Abdallah throw away a small bag containing a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Deputies subsequently arrested Abdallah for fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
In the process of making the arrest, deputies learned that Abdallah’s mother, 51-year-old Tanya Abdallah Allison was the subject of an active felony warrant. So was her friend Haleigh Cohely, 22.
On April 13, deputies tracked Allison to an address on West Street in Brooksville and arrested her on three counts of failing to appear on felony warrants.
She was subsequently booked into the Hernando County Detention Center, where her son is being held on drug charges in lieu of bond.
Allison is being held at the Hernando County Detention Center without bond.
Also, on April 13, Haleigh Cohely was found sleeping in a vehicle at a Brooksville address on Jayson Drive.
Deputies arrested and handcuffed her. Cohely ran in an attempt to elude them, but she was quickly apprehended. When they searched her, deputies found a small bag of methamphetamine on her person.
Cohely was arrested and booked into the Hernando Detention Center on three counts of failing to appear on felony warrants, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and escape.
She is being held in lieu of a bond.
