Parks Small, Director of Florida State Parks attended the City Council Meeting held on May 15th to present the City with their latest distinction: A Florida Trail Town designation.
Florida State Parks is a division of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), as is the Florida Office of Greenways and Trails, both of which selected Brooksville as the State’s latest Trail Town.
Small described a Trail Town as, “An opportunity for a trail user to take a detour from the trail to take full advantage of what the town and community have to offer.” Having spent some time in the city, he added, “Just driving around in Brooksville tonight, we were looking at the mermaids and the Art on Fire — the painted fire hydrants and the murals, and some of the businesses in town, and we know that we made a really good decision.”
The application process culminated in a presentation in Tallahassee in April, resulting in a unanimous decision to recognize the city as Florida’s newest Trail Town.
