Commissioner June Ester was actively involved in her community as she spent many years on the Planning & Zoning Commission before running for County Commissioner. “In 1988, not only did she win the election, but she made history and became Hernando County’s first female County Commissioner. She ran again in 1994 and won that election, too. She was also the first female Chairwoman for the board and held that position for two of the eight years she proudly served. She loved what she was doing and had a true passion for it. She made many great friends while she worked for the county, and that is a little bit of an understatement, but she stayed in touch with most of them, all these years later. They were her family too.”
