Independence Day will be celebrated in a burst of glory and a lot of patriotic sentiment on Tuesday, July 4, from 4-10 pm at the Marine Corps League 708 Oorah. The MCL708 Fourth of July Celebration will bring fun, food, fireworks, and festivity to the Hernando County community. A $5 donation is requested to help cover the cost of food for the event. “This is our way of showing our appreciation to everyone in the community,” said Marine Corps League 708 Commandant Jim Bravico.

This fun family event will feature a water slide and bounce house for kids, cornhole games, and good eats that include freshly grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, ice cream, sodas, water, and more. A fireworks display will be celebrated at dusk, sponsored by Patriotic Fireworks and Always Faithful Moving. “This marks the second year for our big barbecue,” said Bravico. “Last year, we had 300 people show up.”

The centerpiece of this festivity will be a dazzling show of fireworks to rejoice in the Independence Day celebrations. “Folks always look forward to the fireworks,” said Bravico. “It’s a spectacle.”

The younger set will enjoy play equipment provided by Lil Ants House of Bounce of Hernando County, while adults are sure to appreciate raffles and 50/50s, offering prizes that include a money tree, a TV, and gift baskets created by the MCL708 Ladies Auxiliary. All are invited to sing and dance along to music broadcast live by Z102.9 WZEU FM. “They’ll be playing patriotic music,” said Bravico. “Plus party songs from the 60s and 70s. We’ll have singalongs.”

The MCL708 Honor Guard also will be on-site, hosting a patriotic presentation of music and pageantry to culminate this grand celebration. “For us here at the Marine Corps League, that’s what the Fourth of July is all about,” said Bravico. “It’s about the flag. It’s about the country. And those who serve it.”
