The BOCC awarded a $646,541 contract to PAW Demolition. The contract calls for demolishing the no longer in use Spring Hill Water Reclamation Facility located at 2514 Osowaw Blvd. The facility opened in 1967 and was used until January of this year to treat over 2 million gallons of wastewater per day. The facility’s closure helped reduce nitrates entering the aquifer and lessened the impact on Weeki Wachee Springs and River. Wastewater is now processed at the Airport Reclamation Facility. The demolition bid includes the cost of relocation for endangered wildlife, specifically the Gopher Tortoise, as well as asbestos remediation. The contract calls for work to be completed within 90 days after the County issues a Notice to Proceed.
