Storylines:
Coming off a 2-win season a year ago, Head Coach Jon Malandrucco and company are hoping for a stronger season in year two with the current staff. Like the Leopards, year one under the new regime saw the Hornets go through rough patches en route to a losing season. Unlike the Leopards, the new coaches were brought in because the team had hit rock bottom with a winless season in 2021. Has the second-year staff had enough time to rebuild the Hornets into a 5-plus win squad? With more time in the system, Coach Malandrucco feels they have taken a step forward offensively and are able to “run more formations” as a result. If the Hornets have made tangible progress on that side of the ball, it will be a far cry from being shut out seven times in 10 games two short years ago.

Game to watch: It’s got to be the Hornets’ home matchup against the Fivay Falcons on October 6th. Having lost last year’s road tilt 14-7 in overtime, the Green and Black have an opportunity to win this one at home this time. The game is a mid-season matchup that also gives Weeki Wachee the chance to build momentum heading into the back half of the schedule.
