Almost four years ago, notes about the telephone switchboard on display at the May-Stringer Museum appeared here. On May 4, 2019, Mary Frances Griffith appeared in a video shot at the May-Stringer. She sat at the very switchboard that she had worked at and demonstrated how operators put through calls using that equipment, which was used in Brooksville up until December 1978. Over 367,000 people have watched it since that time! Hundreds have left comments to compliment Mrs. Griffith for sharing her knowledge in such a clear and concise manner.
The YouTube video can be found at https://youtu.be/aYkh6BrsPpQ. It is titled 1950s Switchboard Operations.
As said in the earlier note, one of the delights of local visitors to the exhibit is that they find the names, addresses and phone numbers of family and friends in the directory that Mary Frances referred to. In many cases, the phone number is the same today as it was in 1978!
