Fun and games will be the order of the day at an upcoming Hernando County fund-raiser, and as guests enjoy a classic parlor game, they’ll be enriching the lives of young people across the county.
The Rotary Club of Spring Hill will be hosting its Third Annual Bingo and Charity Event at the Masaryktown Community Center on Sunday, October 8, 2023. Doors open at 3 p.m., and dinner and drinks (beer and wine are available) will be served. Game prizes will be available valued at $50–250, with a total of more than $1500 to be awarded.
“There will be games and an opportunity to view the many beautiful raffle baskets until Bingo begins at 5 p.m.,” said Silvia Dukes, bingo event chair of the Rotary Club of Spring Hill.
The Rotary Club of Spring Hill is a not-for-profit community service organization, part of Rotary International, one of the largest service organizations in the world. The mission of Rotary is to “provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_International)
“All proceeds from the event will stay local to meet the needs of our community,” said Dukes, “and the many projects the Rotary Club of Spring Hill is involved in throughout the year, with a special focus on children and youth.”
Examples of these projects and involvement are:
- The annual distribution of dictionaries to all third graders in Hernando County as part of a nationwide program serving schools and kids throughout America
- Full sponsorship of high school students to attend a one-week leadership program, “Seminar for Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
- Participation in the development of the new Splash Park, encompassing a 6,000-square-foot area at Anderson Snow Park, is a collaborative effort between all Hernando County Rotary clubs and Hernando County. This elaborate, brightly adorned park will feature a vast assortment of decorative, playful water features, fences, lovely landscaping, a new bathhouse and changing area and its own additional parking area.
- An annual holiday program for underserved kids, usually conducted in cooperation with other community organizations.
“The Rotary Club of Spring Hill also provides support to other community organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, People Helping People, Early Learning Coalition, and special causes such as support for Drowning Prevention Programs,” said Dukes. “We are especially excited to launch a new “Reality Check” Program in the near future that is aimed to teach basic life skills to students.”
