Whether offering a turkey in exchange for a T-shirt or enjoying a rousing game of pickleball, Hernando residents are finding plenty of fun ways to give back this fall by way of a series of fundraisers hosted by Jericho Road Ministries, helping the hungry, the homeless and the hurting.
“At Jericho Road, we always see an influx of need this time of year, as families strive to put Thanksgiving feasts and holiday meals on the table and—for some—a place to stay for the holidays,” said April Gordon, director of development for Jericho Road. “And we’re seeing an influx in general of people in need of food.”
Jericho Road meets this need in a number of ways, through twice-weekly feedings, food distributions, and meals served up at the agency shelters, including special feasts prepared for the holidays.
Hernando residents now have the chance to help Jericho Road feed the people of this area and have a great time in the process.
Those who bring a turkey or $10 to Chick-fil-A, 13143 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, Wednesday, Nov. 8th, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., can get a free JOYFM shirt. All donations go toward helping those in need on Jericho Road.
“This is part of a larger JoyFM campaign,” said Gordon. “In exchange for the T-shirt, people can donate either a turkey or the cost of a meal.”
The Jericho Road Ministries Pickleball Tournament will be played on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hernando Bandshell Park, 205 E. Fort Dade Avenue,
Brooksville.
“Pickleball is a popular game that families can play together,” said Gordon. “It creates a great feel-good atmosphere.” This is especially the case with this pickleball tournament, an event set to feature music, food trucks, raffles and more.
“This will be a fun day people can enjoy together,” said Gordon. At this event, pickleball will be played in doubles in three divisions – Beginner (can be male or female), advanced mixed doubles, and advanced men’s doubles. Competitors will play to 15 points and must win by two points with a 30-minute timer. Awards will be handed out after the tournament.
