According to a county update posted to social media, while Pine Island Park is still closed for repairs due to the damages and impacts from Hurricane Idalia, the project has progressed considerably.
County staff has removed all damaged structures and debris from the site and has prepared the area for construction.
Items of debris removed include over 800 feet of destroyed wooden fencing and over 400 feet of concrete sidewalk that was undermined by storm surge.
Parks and Recreation staff members replaced the electronic gate openers at the entrance of Pine Island that were destroyed by five feet of storm surge and repairs have been done to the restroom building.
Currently, the Parks and Recreation Department has completed a scope of work and will be soliciting bids from contractors to rebuild Pine Island facilities shortly.
