On Tuesday night, Nov. 29, Springstead High hosted Weeki Wachee High in girls’ basketball. Springstead entered the game having split its two games to date and Weeki Wachee was playing its first game of the 2023-24 season.
Springstead sprinted out to a first-quarter 15-2 lead. Weeki Wachee rebounded from a slow start to close the gap after two periods to 26-21 and had the game within one point at 18-17 with 1:47 left in the second quarter.
Springstead got to a five-point lead by half time and a seven point lead through three quarters which they held until the 52-45 finish.
Springsted senior Samantha Suarez and Melanie Francis led the Eagles scoring with 14 points each. J’ziyah Munford contributed 13 points. Weeki Wachee’s Paige Atwater put down seven three pointers to keep the visiting Hornets in the game till Springstead pulled away in the fourth quarter, securing a seven-point victory 52-45.
