January is a time for new goals. A new year begins, and many people aspire to make changes or pause to think critically about the future. This can lead us to ponder what actions we can take to help us progress and grow.

Whether writing lines of code or poetry or fixing a leak or a math problem, creativity helps us use our imagination to solve problems and connect with the world in beautiful new ways every day. The Hernando County Public Library is here to support your creative development with events and classes, virtual resources, and of course, books.

The Book to Art Club @ Spring Hill Library

The Book to Art Club will meet every other month at the Spring Hill Library to discuss a shared read and create a unique piece of art inspired by the book. The goal of the Book to Art Club is to find hands-on, creative ways to engage with literature – where the process of art-making is more important than the finished product! Books are a powerful tool to open the mind and expand our ways of thinking, breaking down walls and opening doors and combined with visual art, this pathway to higher-level of consciousness is taken even further.

The first meeting is on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 6 p.m. Registration will open on December 28, 2023.

LinkedIn Learning

Lifelong learning and continuing education goals for adults can be achieved through LinkedIn Learning, which can be accessed for free with your Hernando County library card. This is a truly comprehensive resource where users can find courses on a variety of topics ranging from the latest software, time management, copyediting, program management, and so much more. It is a great way to get the latest skills you need at work, or simply for self-improvement.

Research Tools

Set a Reading Goal

According to Yale researchers, people who read an average of 30 minutes a day live longer than nonreaders. Reading has been shown to support healthy brain function, improve empathy and increase emotional intelligence. If you would like to make reading a goal this year, consider a reading challenge. Goodreads.com encourages readers to set a target goal and share their progress with peers. If you need in-person encouragement, all Hernando County Public Libraries host book clubs.

The Power of Your Library Card
