A Spring Hill man is being held without bond in connection with the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend.
Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Deputy Public Information Officer (PIO) Michael Terry said around 10:40 p.m. on Feb. 28, deputies responded to a report that a shooting had taken place at a residence on St. Ives Boulevard in the Pristine Place community in Spring Hill.
Inside that residence, deputies found a woman who had sustained a fatal gunshot.
Later, the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Roland Maurice Akins, told investigators that he had been engaged in an argument with his live-in girlfriend, whom he was trying to convince to leave his home.
During the argument, the woman was holding a gun. Atkins told investigators that when he took it away from her, it accidentally fired and struck her.
He was arrested at the scene and booked into the Hernando County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
The investigation remains active.
